53 years ago today, the Roe v. Wade decision federally protected abortion and established a fundamental right to bodily autonomy. For over half a century, that decision protected the right to choose.

Today, we don’t just mark an anniversary of a historic milestone but also acknowledge that Roe v. Wade was never meant to be the finish line. There was much work to be done for abortion access to be truly equitable. In 2026, with the overturning of Roe v. Wade nearly three years ago, the crisis has deepened.

The loss of Roe reshaped abortion access across the country but it didn’t end our fight, and NJFPL remains committed to abortion justice and care for all.
